Utica Writers Club
Critique Circle
The Utica Writers Club is starting an online critique circle. Only members can join and it is not mandatory. It will be a supplement to the monthly club meetings.
Those in the circle will get to read the writing pieces for themselves, rather than listen. This way, we can catch typos and offer more detailed feedback. In the past, people have brought multiple copies to meetings, but that can become expensive. We also don't know how many people will show up.
At the start of every month, the members of the critique circle will email a writing piece to Jordan Mierek (co-vice president). She must get your piece within the first week of the month, or you will not be able to participate until the following month. You do not have to send a submission every month, but please respond to every writing piece you receive. If you would like to skip a month, please let her know so that she do not send you any submissions.
Send the piece you critiqued back to me by the end of the month. She will return the critiqued selections to the authors.
Each writing piece must be around 1,000 words (2,000 max). This way, the submission will be short, so everyone will have time to read and comment. Anything less than 1,000 words is fine, and anything a little over (say 1,200) will also work so that we don't have to cut off in the middle of a paragraph.
Send your writing piece as a .doc. Some people do not have newer word programs. You do not have to put your name on it. You can either double or single space your document.
When you comment on a writing piece, use a different colored font or use Track Changes. (If you have questions about these methods, please let her know)
Everyone will be honest, even if a comment sounds harsh. We are writers, so we have thick skin. However, we will not be purposefully cruel. The members of the circle want to help each other. If anyone is rude, he or she will be removed from the circle.
Jordan Mierek, will be the critique circle's moderator. Please send your submission to her at PrincessJaylia@aol.com during the first week of every month.
